Summer work task one

Task 1

Story Line
In most thrillers the theme good vs. evil is shown, going head to head against each other.
Props

Props can be used to create tension; they show who’s bad and good. They usually use things that represent danger like a knife or gun.
Not only could the bad person be in possession of the weapon , but the good character. This is usually to defend themselves from danger.

Actors and their roles
The types of actors used suggest what type of genre the movie is going to be. Someone who is known for comedy, for example Jack Black, wouldn’t be used in a thriller or horror film because it wouldn't be taken seriously, making the audience expect something funny to happen.
Camera Work
Point of view shots are used a lot in thrillers to make the audience see what the character is seeing  and so making them feel how the character feels.
Close ups are also used a lot in thrillers to show the reactions of the characters, telling you how they feel. Sometimes it may show the reaction of the character but not what they’re reacting to. This creates tension, making the audience intrigued and want to know more.
Worms eye view (low angle shots) are used on a person who has power, in a thriller it's most likely the bad guy it is used on. This shows the authority they have over the good people.

Editing
The director can use editing to create a lot of suspension, for example jump cuts are used quite a bit in thrillers. The faster the jump cuts occur, the more tension and it shows something is going to happen.
Good thrillers can’t be boring in order for tension to be there; jump cuts skip all the boring parts of the film, creating tension.
Use of sound
The director can use different types of music to create a different type of atmosphere. When they want more tension they will play more soft and eerie music like high pitched violins. If the character is hiding and needs to be quiet, music will be played quietly or not at all to emphasise how quiet they need to be.
